Grilled Grass-fed Steak Tacos with Avocado Salsa Recipe

Bring the heat to your next Taco Tuesday with this epic taco recipe from Plays Well With Butter featuring delicious New Zealand grass-fed steak and a creamy avocado, jalapeno and lime salsa.  

Ingredients:

For the steak:

  • 2 10 oz New Zealand grass-fed New York strip steaks (Tip: Look for the Taste Pure Nature logo) 
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons adobo sauce (from a can of chipotle peppers) 

For the Avocado Salsa:

  • 2 jalapeno peppers 
  • 1/2 small red onion 
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil 
  • 1 avocado 
  • 2 limes, juiced 
  • Salt
  • Pepper

To Serve:

  • Charred corn tortillas
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • Onion, chopped
  • Lime wedges 

Directions:

  • 1. 30 minutes before grilling, season steaks well with salt and pepper, then brush with adobo sauce.
  • 2. In a small bowl, toss whole jalapeno peppers and red onion half in olive oil and set aside.
  • 3. Preheat grill for medium-high direct heat, approximately 450-500° F.
  • 4. Once grill is hot, place jalapenos, red onion and steaks directly on the grates and close the lid. Cook jalapeno and red onion until blistered and soft and cook steaks 2-3 minutes per side. Remove items from the grill.
  • 5. Set steaks aside to rest 5-10 minutes while you prep the salsa.  
  • 6. Carefully remove blistered skin from jalapenos and deseed, if desired.
  • 7. To a food processor or blender, add jalapeno, onion, avocado, and lime juice. Blend until smooth. Add salt and pepper to taste.

To serve:

  • 8. Slice steaks against the grain.
  • 9. Spread avocado salsa over a charred tortilla.
  • 10. Pile grilled steak on top and finish with fresh cilantro, chopped onion and lime wedges on the side, as desired.
